Lisa grew up in Milwaukee, WI, where her roots in faith and family are firmly planted. She has been further prepared to serve and advocates for the community by
acquiring social work degrees from Tennessee State University, the University of Kentucky, and, a Ph.D, from Capella University. She has used her education to teach others as a professor, and workshop presenter on topics such as:
Dr. Adams-Qualls has applied her knowledge and research in the field of social work through providing direct services as
a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, licensed substance abuse counselor, school social worker, special education supervisor, and principal.
Research topics and interests include: Her current research focus is highlighting the need for trauma-informed care, especially for African-American males who are less likely to report trauma, but are still suffering from the consequences.
Lisa contributes to the social work and mental health learning community as a professor, researcher, and regular presenter on topics related to trauma, including anger management, love and logic, restorative practices, and advocacy for trauma-informed care. She also serves on the Board of Directors for
The Chalkboard Project Africa, a global initiative to support training for the learning communities of Africa.
